Meet Benjamin: The Young Detectorist with a Big Heart
Benjamin is a bright, energetic, and kind-hearted young boy whose passion for metal detecting began at just four years old. His journey started in the most unexpected way—finding a ring in a park without even using a metal detector! From that moment on, he was hooked. He became eager to uncover hidden treasures and, more importantly, to share his discoveries with friends.
While Benjamin grew, so did his compassion for others. In fact, he found inspiration close to home. His older sister had launched Inspired by Elizabeth, a bracelet business dedicated to raising funds for the Children’s Hospital. Seeing the impact of her efforts, Benjamin wanted to make a difference as well.
One day, during a camping trip at Rock Garden Campground, Benjamin learned about an initiative to collect pop tabs to help provide a wheelchair for a child in need. At that moment, something clicked. He realized this was a cause he could contribute to, and without hesitation, he made it his mission to collect as many pop tabs as possible.
At just six years old, Benjamin took his mission seriously. As a result, he began approaching fellow campers, asking if they would donate their pop tabs. Before long, he had filled an entire ziplock bag. From then on, his passion only grew.
Now, Benjamin’s goal is even bigger—he is working hard to fill a giant plastic bottle with pop tabs. To achieve this, he has expanded his efforts beyond campsites. For example, he now visits local businesses, including Romeo Bros Barbers & Hairstyling, to collect tabs from their recycling bins.
As metal detectorists, we often find pop tabs during our hunts and simply discard them. However, instead of throwing them away, we have the opportunity to support Benjamin’s heartfelt mission. If you would like to help, consider saving your pop tabs and dropping them off for him.
Ultimately, Benjamin’s determination, kindness, and generosity remind us all that even the smallest actions can make a huge impact. Let’s come together to support this young hero as he turns everyday finds into a force for good.
